Medical Gas Qualifications

Medical Gas Qualifications

Measurements in accordance with the European Pharmacopoeia.

The hospital is responsible for setting up, implementing and maintaining a quality system for medical gases.

Procedure
To check that the various gases during transport, through the hospital’s management system, from the source (the bulk tank) to the patient takeoff point, maintain their quality and purity, measurements must be carried out both periodically and after operations on the piping system.

The different gases must comply with the monographs as laid down in the European Pharmacopoeia.

What is measured in measurements according to the European Pharmacopoeia:
With a medical compressed air measurement, the following components are measured:
• Oxygen content
• Water vapor
• Carbon monoxide
• Carbon dioxide
• Sulfur dioxide
• Nitrous gases (total of the components nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide)
• Oil

With a medical oxygen measurement, the following components are measured:
• Oxygen content
• Water vapor
• Carbon dioxide
• Carbon monoxide

In the case of a nitrous oxide measurement, the following components are measured:
• Carbon monoxide
• Carbon dioxide
• Water vapor
• Sulfur dioxide
• Nitrous gases (total of the components nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide)

In a carbon dioxide measurement, the following components are measured:
• Carbon monoxide
• Water vapor
• Hydrogen sulfide
• Sulfur dioxide
• Nitrous gases (total of the components nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide)

With a nitrogen measurement, the following components are measured:
• Carbon monoxide
• Carbon dioxide
• Water vapor

In the case of a nitrous oxide measurement, the following components are measured:
• Carbon monoxide
• Carbon dioxide
• Water vapor
• Sulfur dioxide
• Nitrous gases (total of the components nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide)

Prices, always custom-made
To be able to make an offer that is as specific as possible for you, we would be happy to discuss this with you.
The prizes are partly determined by:
• any problems already identified by you
• the number and type of measurements
• the timeframe and the times within which the measurements must be carried out
• are project-based or regular measurements?
• is the one-off or structural set-up

We would be happy to visit you to discuss the various reporting documents and to compile a measurement package with you.

Additional gas quality measurements and qualifications

Percentage and identification measurement
A measurement with a paramagnetic oxygen analyzer not only determines the identity of the gas (at the compressed air or oxygen delivery point) but also the percentage of O2, in accordance with the European Pharmacopoeia.
With the Pharmacopoeia measurements an oxygen percentage measurement is performed as standard.

Static, dynamic and pressure drop measurement.
To check the capacity of the pipeline network, we measure the pressure without and with take-off in accordance with NEN 7396/1. This is an important measurement after a breach of the pipeline network and to periodically measure whether the entire supply chain can still deliver the required capacity.

Particle test
In accordance with NEN 7396/1, after renovation or new construction of the piping system, it is checked whether no particles have remained behind in the pipes.

Acoustic leak test
An employee uses an ultrasonic leak detector to detect leaks in piping systems and pendulums.

MAC measurement
For example, in the Maximum Acceptable Concentration measurement, the percentage (ppm) of nitrous oxide in the ambient air is measured to ensure that the working conditions are safe.

Leak pressure test
During this measurement, a part of the pipeline network is kept under pressure during a specified period (for example 2 hours) and the pressure loss within the specifications is measured with special calibrated equipment.

Additional Information

Mobile equipment.
The equipment has wheels, the laptop and the mobile printer have a battery.

Direct release of patient off-take
Immediately after a measurement there is good or rejection. Upon approval, the collection point is immediately released by the pharmacist. On request, the report can be printed with the mobile printer.

Calibration of the equipment
The procedures imposed by the manufacturer are followed.

Certificate
The qualification engineers have received internal training.

Below left the measurement set. Many years of measuring experience has led to the current design.

Complementary services

Coding of medical gas patient withdrawal points
In most hospitals, all outlets have a unique code but gas collection points often do not.

A sustainable coding system is installed that can be used in the gas quality management system. Every purchase point can then be followed and it makes registration or measurements easier.

Periodic maintenance of the medical gas patient points
Different manufacturers give different maintenance intervals for their gas collection points. Some O-rings have been replaced every 3 years most every 5 years.

We support you in the maintenance of the maintenance interval.

Gas quality management system.
The hospital is responsible for setting up, implementing and maintaining a quality system for the various gases.
We can support you in the design, redesign, refurbishment or completion of the quality management system for the different gases.

Upgrade existing medical gas system with a point management system.
Moisture measurement and monitoring is important to prevent bacterial growth in your medical air systems. It concerns related health problems and fluid in your equipment.
In addition, moisture is a critical parameter because filter streets, absorption filters and catalysts are only at a low water concentration.

We have various dew point sensors and alarm options, which can easily be integrated into your existing building management system.
